A horizontal transmission micrometer reticle is a high-precision accessory designed specifically for optical measurement. When observed through the eyepiece, the horizontal graduation line perfectly coincides with the sample image formed by the microscope objective (confocal), thus enabling direct reading of the horizontal dimensions of minute objects.
